Sarah looked at her watch, it was a cold miserable November evening. Too cold to be standing here in a summer blouse she thought. "Come on Doctor, hurry up," she muttered under her breath. For a Time Lord he didn't keep very good time. There was footsteps approaching from behind. She turned around to see who it was and lost her balance slightly.
"Are you all right love?"
Sarah looked at the man. He was wearing a sharp blue suit and a frilly white shirt. It was the Doctor; she was relieved. She looked at his face, it wasn't the Doctor. "Who are you?"
"Don't you know baby?"
Sarah watched as he preened himself and smiled, exposing his badly brushed teeth.
"I'll give you a clue...photographs."
Sarah gave him a withering look and walked away.
"Hey wait up, nothing sleazy. The name's Powers, Austin Powers, here's my card." Austin handed the woman his card. "You know you have a beautiful face."
"Yes well I'm meeting someone here and I'd appreciate being left alone." Sarah stopped walking and crossed her arms.
"Sure baby, no problems. We'll wait here for him, can't leave you alone now can we?"
"What's to be scared of here?" Sarah looked around for several seconds the coast was clear apart from the Doctor-like sexist idiot who couldn't take a hint. If he thought she was going to take this for one more second then he was in for a surprise.
"Would you like a sweet love? Got them a few minutes ago from the shop over there." Austin offered her his bag of jelly babies.
"What do you mean?" Sarah exploded then she realised he was being nice. "Oh yes I'd like a sweet." She selected a yellow one and munched it. "Thanks." She appreciated the gift; most unexpected. Usually all she got was 'get out of my way Sarah' or 'those are top secret plans Miss Smith'.
"I think this is your bloke now." Austin pointed at the similarly dressed man who was walking down the street. "I knew this suit was fashionable, look I'd better be off. You know how it is, one minute you're talking to someone and the next you're off saving the world from ruthless maniacs." He hoped she wouldn't know how accurate that last remark was.
Sarah thought Austin was being polite as he walked away. Now only if he did something about his teeth. Still he would never know how close his last remark was. "Doctor, hi, you took your time."
"Time is relative, Sarah Jane."
He didn't get out of it that easily. "Of course it's more polite to just say sorry for keeping a lady waiting."
"In that case I am most humbly sorry Miss Smith. Would you do me the honour of accompanying me to a romantic candlelit briefing with the Brigadier and the rest of his staff?"
"You old romantic." Sarah smiled and they walked back down the street to where the Doctor had parked his weird silver car. She just hoped that John Benton would have a mug of his coffee waiting for her; it would really warm her bones up.
